    Gwangju is a major transportation hub for 36 cities and districts in Jeolla-do and major cities such as Seoul, Daegu, and Jeju.

    It takes less than 2 hours to get from Seoul to Gwangju by high-speed rail (KTX, SRT) and 50 minutes via domestic flight.
    Visitors can also reach Kimdaejung Convention Center in 10 minutes by subway from Gwangju Songjeong Station, and can arrive at Holiday Inn Gwangju in 5 minutes' walk from Kimdaejung Convention Center.
    Gwangju is the perfect city for MICE events, as the event venues and hotels are easily accessible by congestion-free roads. It has successfully held large-scale convention events such as the 7th ASEM Conference on Culture and Civilization (2016), BIXPO Bitgaram International Expo of Electric Power Technology (2017), ISEA (International Symposium on Electronic Art) (2019), and FINA Gwangju World Aquatics Championships (2019), while the IFLA International Federation of Landscape Architects General Assembly (2022) and IFAA : International Federation of Associations of Anatomists (2024) are scheduled.

  • UNESCO Media Arts Creative City Gwangju

    In 2014, Gwangju was designated as a UNESCO Creative City for Media Art, developing the city's unique media art color through convergence of it's artistic traditions, democratic values, and science and technology. Various cultural and artistic events such as Gwangju Biennale, Media Art Festival, and Asian Culture Forum are held in Gwangju, and there are many places where people can enjoy media art. In particular, Gwangju Media Art Platform, located in Bitgoeul Citizen Cultural Center and Art Space, is a site where people of all ages can experience augmented reality such as K-POP holograms, media art using motion recognition, and hologram facades.

  • UNESCO global geopark Mount Mudeung area

    Mudeungsan was designated as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2018, and has selected as one of the top 100 Korean tourism destinations for 4 consecutive years. Seoseokdae and Ipseokdae are columnar joints that symbolize Mudeungsan Mountain, with a diameter of 1~2m and a height of 10~30m, providing colorful scenery. It is the only tourist attraction in the world where people can see columnar joints, found only in coastal areas, from the top of a mountain. Of particular note, Seoseokdae is sometimes called the ‘Crystal Screen of Seoseok’ because it sparkles with a strong light resembling a crystal as it reflects sunset rays.

  • The May 18 Democratic Uprising

    In 2011, the May 18 Democratic Uprising documents were registered for world heritage records in UNESCO. In order to preserve the historical records of the May 18 Democratic Uprising, the May 18 Democratic Uprising Archives was established in 2015 and continues to collect, display, and study records. To this day, efforts are being made to spread the truth, free from distortion and derogation, of the May 18 Democratic Uprising, and work to investigate this truth is continuing.
